How to use botanicals on the top of soap

by Lisa Donohue

Just want to know how and when you would put botanicals like lavender or petals on the top of soap instead of in the soap so they will stay.

Answer:

Adding lavender buds or flower petals to the top of the soap log can be done in a couple of ways.

1. Add them immediately after pouring the soap so that the base will act as a glue and hold some of the flowers to the soap.

2. After the soap has insulated you can add the petals/buds to the loaf using clear melt and pour soap as the 'glue'.

Be aware that flower petals and lavender buds will go brown after a week or two of being in contact with the soap. To the best of my knowledge there is no way around this.
